Puppy Socialization

The addition of a new puppy to a family can be an exciting event. It is also one that brings with it a great deal of responsibility. Learning how to properly care for that puppy by attending Puppy Socialization class can be an enjoyable experience for both the puppy and the owner.

Our Puppy Socialization class is designed especially for puppies between the ages of 8-20 weeks of age. During the 5-Week course, the instructor will discuss the importance of proper nutrition, housebreaking and grooming techniques. A few obedience basics will also be taught – walking on a leash, sit, down and coming when called. Equipment that will be needed consists simply of a nylon or leather collar and a leash (no chains please).

Advance registration is required and proof of current vaccinations must be provided (all puppies must have had a distemper combination booster within the last 3 weeks – a Bordatella or Kennel Cough vaccination is also required. The puppy should be brought to the first class.

Novice Obedience

If you have decided it’s time to better your dog’s manners or perhaps to cure your dog of a particular behavioral problem, we offer basic obedience classes to assist you. The classes are held in the lower level of Ellisville Veterinary Hospital and the course will last 6 weeks. Your dog should be at least 4 months old.

You will need training equipment consisting of a 4 or 6 foot leather or nylon leash and a training collar. These items will be available for purchase at class.  

During the course of the obedience classes, your dog will learn to heel, sit, down, sit-stay, down-stay and come when called.  The class is designed to have a manageable dog at home and given the confidence needed to keep your dog under control when you have to take them out.

You will need to register in advance since class size is limited. You must provide written proof of Rabies, DHLPP, and Bordatella vaccinations. You do not bring your dog to the first class.
